This downtown wedding in Grand Rapids was a beautiful blend of cultures and family. We had to work around a variety of obstacles on the big day, include weather and time crunch, but were able to seamlessly navigate them to get amazing photographs of Lydia & Eyal.
The Wedding Day
When we arrived at the Harris building downtown, we were immediately greeted by their wonderful staff. The building is very unique, with their ceremony and reception space upstairs. The bride and groom wanted an urban vibe, and the old-time brick, bustling streets, and stunning ceremony space didn’t disappoint. Lydia looked beautiful and had all her girls helping her get ready, and Eyal’s family had flown in from Israel for the big day. Although it took longer to get ready than anticipated, we were able to adjust the timeline to give Lydia the time she needed and still get all of the images she wanted.
The Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony was beautiful, and we loved seeing Eyal’s face when he saw his bride walk down the aisle towards him with her mother. Some highlights from their ceremony for us were the speeches from Eyal’s family, Lydia’s close friend being their officiant, the smashing of the glass at the end of the ceremony, and seeing them walk down the aisle as husband and wife with their friends and family blowing bubbles around them.
Wedding Day Portraits
Following the ceremony, we had bridal party portraits on our timeline. Lydia and Eyal wanted to travel in style, and we rode around downtown Grand Rapids in a limo. It was so much fun getting to not only capture the energy and excitement throughout portraits but as we travelled there as well. With their entire bridal party dancing, eating and fist-pumping out the windows, the energy level was through the roof for portraits. This helped keep everyone’s spirits up especially when the rain set in and threatened to ruin the day. We were able to adapt, and still get the photos they wanted.
The Wedding Reception
The wedding reception was a whole other level. The Harris Building staff did a fantastic job of transitioning the ceremony space into the reception space while the guests were at cocktail hour. After heartwarming and entertaining toasts, a hilarious surprise video Eyal’s groomsmen put together for the couple, and a delicious dinner, every single guest was on their feet dancing the night away.
Lydia and Eyal, it was a pleasure getting to photograph your wedding. We loved getting to work with you and getting to know your amazing families. It was a joy to see how well your families embraced each other. We wish you nothing but the very best in your marriage!
