Chic and Elegant Ann Arbor Wedding Celebrating the Joining of Culture and Tradition

Aug 10, 2023 | Michigan, Wedding

Our style of wedding photography is interaction-based photography storytelling, and getting to photograph this wedding at Ann Arbor City Club was perfect for our photography style.

The Couple

We first met Erik & Mila when we photographed his proposal at Windmill Gardens in Holland. She was truly surprised, and we’ve loved getting to know them since. When they asked us to photograph their wedding, we were so excited to say yes! When creating the timeline for their wedding, we were excited for the challenge. This was our first Jewish wedding, which means we needed to include Jewish traditions, such as the Ketubah signing and the dancing of the Horah with the typical wedding day elements we are used to photographing. We loved the challenge and getting to add these special details to their timeline.

As soon as we arrived at the venue and made it to the couple, it was so exciting. The guys got to get ready downstairs in the pub. We were able to capture them just hanging out, relaxing and preparing for the big moment. Mila was upstairs getting ready with her mother, sister, and nieces. Seeing the relationship Mila has with her family was so special. The emotion, love and heartfelt moments made photographing her getting ready perfect.

The Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony took place in the outdoor area at Ann Arbor City Club in Ann Arbor. The weather was beautiful and not too hot for August. Although they had a packed house, because of the spacious setting, nobody was crowded, and there was space for the little ones to run around. After their closest relatives joined them in their Ketubah signing, they made their way to their ceremony. They had a live stream going throughout the ceremony for Erik’s family in Peru, and it was sweet how they were acknowledged throughout the ceremony. The ceremony was full of Jewish traditions, from the traditional walking around the groom, the Chuppah, the drinking of the wine, the blessings, and the smashing of the glass before their first kiss as husband and wife.

Wedding Portraits

Taking portraits of the bride and groom is one of our favorite parts of the wedding day. We love getting to whisk them away to have time with each other during the busy day. The way we photograph our couples is interaction-based. We pose our couples into poses that let them look their best, then give them prompts to help them interact. We like to mix fun and playful prompts with more serious, intimate moments. Erik and Mila were both stunning, and we loved getting to capture them.

Dancing the Night Away at the Wedding Reception

If you have never been to a Jewish wedding reception, you are missing out! Getting to photograph and witness the Horah first-hand was one of our favorite wedding moments we’ve experienced. The energy of every single person in the reception venue was unmatched. Not only were the guests who were holding them up in chairs dancing, but every guest there joined in. As we watched and photographed the song getting faster and faster, the Horah got the energy high from the beginning. Mix that with the most adorable llama cake topper to honor the Groom’s Peruvian heritage, the delicious food, and the amazing salsa dancing that occurred all night, Erik & Mila’s reception was one for the books!

Erik and Mila, your wedding day was full of joy, laughter and love, and we sincerely hope your entire marriage is filled with just as much love. When our couples become friends, it makes our job such a joy, and we can’t wait to capture more memorable occasions in your life. We wish you nothing but the very best. Mozel tov!
